Eugene Otieno: Meet the Kenyan Youth Who Has Built 13 Houses for Widows Free of Charge
In Busia County, a remarkable youth leader named Eugene Otieno is making waves by transforming the lives of vulnerable families, particularly widows.
Hailing from Bulemia village in Butula Sub County, Otieno has dedicated his efforts to providing much-needed support to the most disadvantaged members of his community.
Eugene’s journey began when he was elected as the youth chairman of Butula Sub-County. Witnessing the hardships faced by widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups ignited a passion within him to take action.
“After I got the post, I decided to help improve the lives of our people,” he shared in an interview. His singular goal is to bring joy and relief to those in need.
One of his most significant achievements is the construction of 13 houses for widows in the region. These houses are built free of charge, providing a safe and secure environment for those who have lost their spouses. In addition to housing, Eugene also distributes food items to countless families, restoring hope to many who struggle daily.
Otieno’s commitment extends beyond widows; he also helps widowers and orphans. For those widowers who are alone and struggling, he provides essential household items such as blankets and mattresses.
He is a staunch advocate for education, assisting orphans with school fees and uniforms. Given the overwhelming number of children in need, he connects many of them with sponsors to ensure they receive the education they deserve.
To mobilize resources for his projects, Eugene works tirelessly to engage well-wishers and community members.
He leads a group of 50 friends who raise funds to support various initiatives. Additionally, he founded the Inua Jamii Group, which focuses on income-generating activities for youth and women.
