Mike Wanyororo: CRE Teacher Who Quit Classroom Job Now Earning KSh 40,000 Per Day as a Bus Driver in the US
Mike Wanyororo, a former Geography and Christian Religious Education (CRE) teacher from Nakuru County, Kenya, has redefined his life after relocating to the United States.
Once earning a modest KSh 40,000 per month as a teacher under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Mike now brings in up to KSh 40,000 daily working as a Metro Bus driver in the US.
For five years, Mike taught at Gatero Secondary School and Kenyatta High School. Despite his dedication, he found his salary insufficient to support his growing financial responsibilities.
Realizing he needed to find better opportunities, Mike explored the tourism industry. He worked as a tour driver and even started his own companies, Migration Safaris and Maasai Mara Safaris.
However, the tourism business proved unstable, particularly during health crises and economic downturns that severely affected his income.
In 2016, Mike made the life-changing decision to move to the US with his wife. There, he took on various jobs, including working in adult family homes and caring for people with disabilities.
Despite the challenges of adjusting to a new country, Mike embraced every opportunity that came his way, eager to build a more secure future.
Eventually, he set his sights on becoming a Metro Bus driver. This move marked a significant turning point in his life.
After 33 days of intensive training, where he mastered everything from routes to emergency procedures, Mike successfully secured a permanent position. Out of a class of 25 trainees, only 10, including Mike, completed the program.
Now, Mike works a minimum of eight hours daily, earning approximately KSh 4,000 per hour. Unlike in Kenya, where buses wait for passengers, US Metro Buses run on fixed schedules, allowing Mike to keep moving and earning consistently throughout his shifts.
His inspiring journey from a Kenyan classroom to a successful career in the US is a testament to his resilience and drive for success.
